1962: Gary "U.S." Bonds makes his US TV debut on American Bandstand.
1967: The first of the major rock festivals, Monterey Pop, is held in California.
1976: No longer just five, The Jacksons get their own summer variety show.
1978: Grease opens in US theaters, becoming the smash hit of the year.
1980: The movie The Blues Brothers premieres in Chicago.
1989: Smokey Robinson launches his own perfume for women, entitled simply "Smoke."
2002: A remixed version of Elvis Presley's 1967 single "A Little Less Conversation" hits #1 in the UK, released as part of a plan by his estate to regain the UK record for Number Ones from the Beatles.

NBC FALL LINEUP! NBC has set the premiere dates for its fall schedule. The Voice, featuring new coaches Miley Cyrus and Alicia Keys, will begin its 11th season on September 19. Most of NBC's shows return the same week, including Law & Order: SVU and The Blacklist. The network will also air the first game of the 2016 NFL season on Thursday, September 8.
