1953: At Sun Studios, an eighteen-year-old Elvis records a novelty 45 for his mother's birthday.
1964: The Rolling Stones chart their first American hit with "Not Fade Away."
1972: All members of Sly and the Family Stone are arrested in Hollywood after police search their tour bus and find two pounds of marijuana and two vials of cocaine.
1983: Simon and Garfunkel embark on a full scale, 19-city US tour.
1988: Ike Turner is sentenced to one year in a Santa Monica, CA jail for six grams of crack found in his car during a traffic stop in August 1987.

ANN WILSON SOLO THING! Heart recently released a new album, and now comes word that Ann Wilson will release a new EP containing four songs done with her solo project, The Ann Wilson Thing, this Friday, July 22. The Ann Wilson Thing also has announced dates for a trek through Florida this September. Get the full itinerary.

SURPRISE: BEING FAT SHORTENS YOUR LIFE! A recent study shows that merely being overweight -- not even obese -- is associated with a higher risk of dying early of any cause. The results highlight that even slight increase in BMI can cause harm. The study tried to better understand how BMI is elated to mortality, and whether global trends emerged across different regions of the world.
